Infringement vs Norm: Ugandan Laws vs Ugandan Publications

Today started out fairly uneventful – that is until i logged on.

Then my inbox held the surprise “… TRP, you are in one of the tabloids… ” – and indeed it was true.

Published in one of Uganda’s Infamous tabloids pictures stolen off facebook + in print my full names and a ludicrous caption about me.

When I got over the initial shock and righteous anger, I was duly informed by someone much older and calmer – Do Nothing. Don’t fight them. If you do, it will get worse.

Is that what we have come to? Ugandan Publications, should we not expect much from you? Is this what you have resorted to – stealing Facebook Profile Pictures & taking names off and slandering our names? Are our reputations to be put at stake because you want to make a quick buck? Is this really what you have stooped to?

Is there even a body in place that watches to make sure this doesn’t happen? Any laws in place that are effective to put this to a stop? I’m sure there are number of people who have been slandered by this particular tabloid – in fact a friend was recently informed that she had appeared in this tabloid – and she doesn’t even live in Uganda/nor is she a Ugandan.

I mean seriously, do we move two steps forward then take five steps back?

Serena

Yes, my job demands that i should be online 24/7 – so because my link at work is abit slow…I had to go to the Serena!

I know what a few of you might be thinking, ‘yay me!’ and I’d like to leave it at that, however, I am bored out of my brains!!!!

Don’t frown at me! I know i have unlimited internet access right now but….

Today started out great until a few hours ago.

I just made a ground breaking discovery – we (the highly evoled female species) were not meant to understand ‘men‘ (said with disdain)…

I am hungry and very annoyed right now.

In fact lemme go look for some good ol Lay’s Salt and Vinegar.

brb

Update: someone seriously needs to put a supermarket near this place!

Roads in Kampala

Just Horrible. Absolutely Horrible.

I am talking about the roads in Kampala.

Seriously! I heard a rumour that we had a ministry that deals with disaster-preparedness (what ever that is supposed to mean)

I just makes me sooooooooooooooo mad. You know the other part that really gets to me: when you decided to make your own village road THEY JAM YOU!!! I mean wats up with that?????!!!!!!!

Mulago, Gayaza Road, Wandegeya (to mention but a few) – they just turn into Gullies!

Yet Tax is paid every month, on and off we see newspaper ad’s about Money for road reconstruction. Apparently Gayaza Road has been in the budget for a few years – WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO????

As in….

I am just speechless….

We don’t want you to do your usual SHODDY PATCH UP job!!

I need love, love
To ease my mind
I need to find, find someone to call mine
But mama said

You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take

You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
You got to trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

But how many heartaches
Must I stand before I find a love
To let me live again
Right now the only thing
That keeps me hangin’ on
When I feel my strength, yeah
It’s almost gone
I remember mama said:

You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take

How long must I wait
How much more can I take
Before loneliness will cause my heart
Heart to break?

No I can’t bear to live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love to call my own
But when I feel that I, I can’t go on
These precious words keeps me hangin’ on
I remember mama said:

You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take

You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

Gotta wait!

No, love, love, don’t come easy
But I keep on waiting
Anticipating for that soft voice
To talk to me at night
For some tender arms
To hold me tight
I keep waiting
I keep on waiting
But it ain’t easy
It ain’t easy
But mama said:

You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said to trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

You can’t hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take
