When did we become so lax?

26 May

Seems like I have a lot of bubbling questions lately…

Here, in this lovely country, (Uganda), we have a number of words/names for people who are constantly on time. People who constantly arrive early, pay their taxes, drive with permits, hand in reports on time, always give their view in meetings – whether they are asked or not.

Goodie-two-shoes, teachers pet, too much gas.

And to be the exact opposite of that is seen as cool. Don’t roll your eyes it’s true. It’s a subtle culture that is slowly trickling it self into most of us.

We now prefer to be ‘a compromising, let’s not pay to close attention to detail, do what the boss wants when they are around but as soon as they are gone, let’s lead the revolt’, class of people.

What happened to Excellence? What happened to Integrity? Exactly what character are we grooming to pass on?

When did we become so lax?

The easiest thing for people to do is follow the crowd. They don’t want to be the brave ones who stick out like a sore thumb in a crowd of mediocrity.

When we hear people riding someone’s azz about being a goody-two-shoes, then it is important for us to stand up in their defense and point out the fact that it is excellence we should be praising.

That is why we have the politicians we have, because their slyness and ability to convolute the laws and rewrite constitutions to serve their own needs keep being placed up as people to follow admire and become.

As you can see, I feel a little passionate about this one being a goody-two-shoes myself.

and that is a god point.. because we can put up with it in our own lives, we do not even think about bringing our leaders to the table

annoying thing is there is a generation of children sucking up all the stuff their parents are doing…

      and then what…

      what happens to our tomorrow…

Tell me, what do you think?
