The Burning Furnace

24 Nov

He put one foot forward, and it just felt like he was pushing against a rushing running. He was all to aware of the the gentle yet encouraging pat she gave him just given him a few seconds ago. Why is this so hard, he wondered to himself. He heard her quiet whispers and asked himself why she believed in him so much. He turned away fro her and started the descent.

Some where, thousands of light years away, there were all sorts of commotion going on in the room. So much excitement – loud voices all over the place. Hellsvy was ablaze with everyone shouting ideas, rushing to their posts.

“How many so far” He asked from his stand.

“Just One, sir” was the reply.

“He seems to be attempting to communicate with Him,” someon else shouted.

“Intercept the call,” He replied. “Pull up the image on the central screen.”

“D and P, you are up.” he pointed to them.

D’s cynical smile would send chills down anyones spine. “With pleasure.” They set off to do his bidding as they had been doing for the last thousand years.

As he looked around the room, he noticed that every one seemed busy. They always did when he was in the room. He looked back at the screen, thats when he noticed her. He could here those whispers loud and clear. Then he smiled, he would take care of this one himself.

Mary suddenly felt fear grip her very soul, she couldn’t move, talk or even look up. She tried to shout or wiggle her toes but nothing was working. Fear began to consume her, panic erupting in her very soul. ‘Is this the end?’ Flashes of her past flashing before her eyes with incredulous speed. With every flash, the grip intensified. In her line of vision, she could see Peter, he looked back at her. Thats when she saw it in his eyes, his doubts were clearly written there.

‘No Pete, Don’t,’ She screamed but not a sound came out.

He hung his head low, shame and anger suddenly taking over, he spun on his heel and fled the place.

Mary wanted to scream, tears flowing down her face.

Then she heard him – a snicker, a sound that reverted through the core of her being.

“He is mine…”
